Estimate your payment after withholding
See the estimated deductions from a New York lottery cash prize.
For a single cash payment received in 2026 by an individual U.S. citizen or resident alien providing a valid taxpayer ID. The winning ticket must have been purchased in New York. Assumes no change of residence between winning and payment.
How this estimate works
For supported prizes with proceeds (cash prize minus winning wager) greater than $5,000, federal regular withholding is estimated at 24% of proceeds. New York State withholding is modeled at 10.9% of the full cash payment. For city residents, NYC withholding is modeled at 3.876% of the cash payment, or Yonkers at 1.82575%. Each deduction is rounded to cents.
The ticket cost reduces the federal withholding base; it is not subtracted again from the estimated payment you receive. State and local estimates use the full payment without deductions. The payer’s actual withholding and rounding may differ.
Prizes with proceeds of $5,000 or less are outside this version. This does not mean those prizes are tax free. Pick 10 is excluded pending confirmation of its federal withholding treatment. Backup withholding, foreign-person rules, tax treaties, group claims, residency changes, and annuity schedules are not modeled.
Withholding is a tax prepayment, not your final tax liability. Other income, filing status, deductions, credits, other-state taxes, and offsets such as overdue tax or child support are not calculated. No personal tax ID is requested or stored by this tool.
